3-2-1: Our House, Super Mood Food and Socrates.
For your mind, body and soul
It’s the last 3-2-1 Sunday for the year!
Before you’ve finished your (second) cup of coffee, maybe with a festive mince pie or piece of shortbread, you’ll have read a few things to set you up for the first week of 2025.
3 for your mind
Music: “Can someone just hold me? Don't fix me, don't try to change a thing Can someone just know me? 'Cause underneath, I'm broken and it's beautiful” - Broken and Beautiful Kelly Clarkson
Podcast: Year-end brings with it feelings of nostalgia and reflection. And while lifequakes are big events that permanently alter the course of a life, we want to recognise the smaller shifts and shakes - tremors, if you will, that sent us on a detour. 12 Tremors Before Christmas
Book: Louise Candlish tells a artfully twisted story with Our House, bringing a nightmare to reality. A woman returns from holiday to find strangers moving into her home, and all her family's possessions are gone! The perfect holiday read for anyone that enjoys a true crime caper. As one reviewer said “The last line will make you literally shout with shock.”
2 for your body
Move: The festive season is a time most of us just want to sit.
But since we tend to over eat during this time, a walk will help with digestion. Opt for a gentle stroll around the neighbourhood, a brisk walk along the coast or a more rigourous hike deep in nature. Whatever you choose, get up and get out.
Eat: Quinoa
Quinoa is a great source of dietary fiber, which feeds the good bacteria in the gut for a healthy microbiome and improved mood. Research has also shown that quinoa can help calm the mind because it has two B vitamins (folate and pyridoxine) that help to regulate neurotransmitter function whose deficiency has been linked to depression.
And, if that isn’t reason enough to chow down on quinoa, is also contains zinc and iron, two nutrients whose deficiency has been linked to increased risk of depression.
