Before you’ve finished what might be your second cup of coffee, you’ll have read a few things to start your week the right way.
3 for your mind
Music: This song is laced with satire and it has an incredibly infectious enegry. Give it a spin. “I’ll do that thing you asked me to but not in a hurry.” No Worries If Not by Celine Tshika
Podcast: Episode #886 of The Rich Roll Podcast with Sahil Bloom. Sahil is a former Stanford baseball player and finance executive. His family backstory is fascinating but it was only when a friend’s simple observation - he would most likely only see his parents fifteen more times before they died - sparked a complete overhaul of his priorities. His new book The 5 Types of Wealth is out now.
Book: Saltwater Cure by Ali Gripper. A compilation of stories that draw on the healing power of the ocean - “whether it be a balm for mental health, a comfort for an autistic child, the start of a lifelong environmental passion or a path to building community and escaping loneliness.”
Ali shares the experiences of people who have been transformed by the ocean, including conservationist and underwater cinematographer Valerie Taylor, solo sailor Jessica Watson, First Nations scientist and dolphin-singer Chels Marshall, blind swimmer James Pittar, Swim Sisters founder Yusra Metwally and many others. 2 for your body
Move: Pilates.
You already know about my fascination with calensthetics and body weight exercise. Well, I finally signed up for a pilates reformer class. I’ll keep you posted on my progress.
Eat: This weeks mood enhancing food is pumpkin seeds.
Research has shown that pumpkin seeds can help calm the mind because they are:
- rich in magnesium, a nutrient whose deficiency has been linked to an increased risk of anxiety.
- an excellent source of antioxidants which help to combat the inflammatory effects of oxidative stress in the brain that can contribute to anxiety.
They can be eaten as a snack on their own; added to a homemade granola or trail mix; sprinkled over a salad or veggie dish. Roasting them brings out a great nutty flavor, and add them to quinoa or wild rice for added crunch and healthy fats! How awesome is that?
1 for your soul
Quote: Franklin D. Roosevelt ~
"To reach a port we must set sail – sail, not tie at anchor. Sail, not drift."
This week on Something Shifted:
What do a Cape Town surfer and a life-saving liver transplant have to do with a sustainable apparel brand?
Listen to “I became a living upcycled human.” on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or YouTube Music.
Go have a great week.
Keep creating,
