3-2-1: What Nelson Mandela Taught Me, Cherries and Hal Borland.
For your mind, body and soul
Happy 3-2-1 Sunday!
Before you’ve finished your (second) cup of coffee, you’ll have read a few things to set you up for the week ahead.
3 for your mind
Music: “Stay in your lane, you ain't on my road trip, and It's kind of funny people throwing shade I'm just doing me, I don't got no bad days, yeah” - No Bad Days Macklemore ft Collett
Podcast: Close friends are the best thing for your health. Friendship, it turns out, is one of life’s best medicines. Simon Sinek chats with Dr Mark Hyman about this in A Bit Of Optimism.
Book: What Nelson Mandela Taught Me by former private secretary, Zelda le Grange. For years, Zelda witnessed former President Nelson Mandela's interactions with people both famous and ordinary. In her memoir, she “draws out his lessons on humility, respect, honesty, how to truly listen and what to do if you realise you have made a grave mistake, a lesson she herself had to learn the hard way.” [Currently reading.]
2 for your body
Move: The seated leg lift.
Simple, effective, and best of all, more than just a core crusher.
Sit on the ground with your legs extended out in front of you.
● Straighten your back and extend your arms straight out to each side. Squeeze your biceps and core to create full upper body tension.
● Lift one leg up as high as you can without altering your posture. Hold for a two count, making sure that you keep up the tension in your upper body.
●Lower the leg, then repeat on the opposite side.
Eat: Cherries. [in season]
Fresh cherries are full of minerals and other nutrients. One of the big ones is vitamin C! It helps your body soak up iron, make collagen, and fight off cell damage. Plus, munching on tart cherries can help reduce inflammation, lower your risk of heart disease, and even speed up muscle recovery after a workout. How awesome is that?
1 for your soul
